Mechanical Engineering
Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering (ME) module of the RoboArm 2026 handbook. In this track, you will learn to transition from system requirements to sketches to manufacturable physical assemblies.
Module Toolchain
Make sure your workspace and accounts are set up prior to our workshops:
If possible, create an Onshape Education Account using your student email address (@student.tudelft.nl) so you have access to private documents and unlimited team sharing.

Module Roadmap
Follow the sequential workshop track using the navigation sidebar on the left:
-
01. Fundamentals & Kinematics
Degrees of freedom, gear ratios, torque margins, and static load sizing. -
02. Parametric CAD Modeling
Top-down multi-part assemblies, joint constraints, standard hardware libraries, and fastener clearance. -
03. Additive Manufacturing & Assembly
Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), heat-set threaded inserts, bearing fits, and structural rigidity. -
04. Mechanical Design
Linkage geometry, bracket design, actuator mounting interfaces, and structural load paths.
